About
I am Alyssa. I am a student at Grand View University pursuing a Secondary English Education Major and a World Languages Minor. I created this website as a project for Dr. Lindsay Grow's Instructional Technology class. This class is designed to educate and inform technological strategies and resources for teachers.
I believe that social media is an exceptional advantage for personal learning within or outside the classroom.
Social Media is an empowering source which many students can use and benefit from its use. Within my English studies, I find websites such as Facebook Twitter, and Goodreads ideal for promoting studies. Students can post links, provide input, and evaluate literary works within these websites.
This website is a resource for teachers and educators who must utilize a diverse array of outlets to enhance student education. One should not
be limited to just textbooks and paper. Educators should create pages from Social Media websites to invite and grant student participation outside the
classroom and within their communities. Both students and teachers will participate in learning, and the results will be celebrated. From exploring this site, teachers will see the benefits of using Social Media within the classroom.
Source Choice
When creating this website, I used sources based on two criteria's: Why Social Media is important, and how it can be used for educational purposes. I used academic sources and various news articles for information. I used relatively recent articles for this website.
Reflection
What I have learned:
While creating this website, I learned about the complexity behind details and looking for accurate sources when compiling information. I learned about how vast and interesting the internet is. I explored various ways on how Social Media can be used to benefit the classroom and the community. This project was challenging with implementing various aesthetics onto the website. I learned to navigate information and compile information on a condensed website.
What I have learned about technology and myself
I learned with technology and creating a website such as one like mine, one is never truly finished creating it. The internet is so vast and information comes in currents. Data should always be updated and relevant to the reader. On my History page, I added information which was written recently November 11th 2013 on the Typhoon in the Philippines and how Social Media has helped many survivors. The internet is truly infinite, and this project help me understand the vast array of knowledge which can be obtained. With all things,
